As night began to gather, the Eucalyptus went shades of deep purple to pale lavender in the fading light. Painted from life with pastel; this studio oil painting was painted from that pastel.

Olive Grove
Monet has a wonderful painting of an olive grove budding out in the springtime, and this olive grove in Balboa Park is close enough to my house to walk to.
SOLD.

Coronado Streetscape
Afternoon on Coronado. Twin palms flank what I think is a car repair place, and I didn’t paint the sign, but I think it was called “Cordova” or something along those lines. Like a lot of my paintings, this one started life as a pastel painting. I love the sleek streamline moderne lines of this low structure.

It’s Not Easy Being Orange
The North Park Festival of Arts went great yesterday! Thank you so much to everyone who stopped by. We met a lot of great people and sold some paintings. Only mildly crippled today.
That’s my easel set up just off Normal Street. Best name for a street ever.
May Gray in La Jolla
A soft gray morning in May on the bluffs overlooking the ocean in La Jolla, San Diego, California.
I have a large version of this painting as well- in my booth at the North Park Festival of Arts. I’m at booth J-9 on the corner of Ohio and University, across from the Craft Beer Block.
I hope to see you there!
Sunset
So I got to Domino’s and my order was not ready… and I had my pastels in the car and the sunset light was floating and yellow. This was a year ago. I did a painting then, but I kept the drawing taped up on my wall…
SOLD. See “all this and more” at booth J-9, corner of Ohio and University Ave, this Sunday May 20th at North Park Festival of the Arts!
Allegedly my uncle may bring his famous kitchen sink cookies. Since we are an art studio and not a commercial kitchen you guessed right- those cookies will be free.
Oh, and if you like the painting of the water tower that North Park Main Street so graciously put on the festival poster, you can bid on it here.
Happy Saturday!

Still Life with Baby Eggplants
I will admit this painting is kind of weird. Miniature eggplants look like what? Purple blobs.
Both of the paintings I attempted this day were the same. The other one was a concha pastry. I’d wanted to paint a concha for ages and as soon as I wanted to paint one they were always sold out at the grocery store. Then I did paint it and it was relatively realistic but … it also looked like a blob.
