San Diego Skyline Painting

San Diego Skyline from Mission Hills

San Diego Skyline from Mission Hills – For Sale

I was very excited to paint the skyline from this spot. We’d driven past on Saturday when the clouds were super dramatic.

I was a little disappointed in the clouds on Sunday for not wreathing around the high rises… but I got over it.

Virginia Farm Mud Puddle

Blacksburg Virginia Farm Landscape

Virginia Tech Farm Painting- for sale

I used to bike to work through the Virginia Tech farms in Blacksburg. It’s a hilly, green town- and this spot along my bike commute always grew a giant mud puddle after rain. Made quite the mess to bike through it, which I enjoyed!

Red Rocks Painting – For Sale

I tagged along to an IT conference in Las Vegas last summer, and had a confused time getting out to Red Rocks Canyon due to my tendency to drive in giant circles while taking wrong turn after wrong turn.

So I’d hoped to do more paintings of the desert on location than I managed to. This is a studio piece that’s been trying to get finished for the past five or six months. Fox Canyon? Wildsomething Canyon? I can’t remember what this pocket canyon was called, but I would have loved to explore it more than I did before the sun went down.

What can I say about this? Ocean Beach is beautiful and lots of fun. I had pizza for lunch, and I love pizza.

Geocache in OB

That’s this painting on the sideways easel, while these guys are checking out the geocache. It was a freezing 55 degrees in the shade- so I really, really suffered for this one. 😉

Pink Flower Cherry Blossom Painting

Flowering Branch Painting – For Sale

This is an older painting, and I’ve always been fond of it. It’s of the flowering pears (maybe cherries) in Balboa Park.

I hope to do more paintings of the pears this year when they come into flower, which should be soon. I’m also very excited to have more mobility soon… may be buying a new truck! Well, used but new to me. I look forward to doing more paintings outside the neighborhood.

Church on Normal Street, Hillcrest

Hillcrest San Diego Painting

Church on Normal Street

This piece almost went into my show at the Lyceum Gallery… opening tonight!

It’s a painting started “en plein air” (painted outside on location) on Normal Street in Hillcrest. This is the spot at one end of the Hillcrest Farmer’s Market.

Early morning, before the traffic gets heavy with people going to work, is a nice, peaceful time to paint. I didn’t manage to finish this one before things started getting hectic, with people waiting outside the DMV and streaming by in their cars, ready to hit the highway on their way to their jobs. So I finished it later in the studio; I often work this way.

“Places Here” – Art Reception: 6-8 PM.

Please join us at the Lyceum Gallery in downtown San Diego for the opening of my show, “Places Here.” It’s an exploration of San Diego’s urban neighborhoods, old houses, and hidden alleyways. (Please click here for more info.)

Virginia Farm Landscape

This painting is one I started in Virginia on our visit to Blacksburg last autumn. It’s been hanging around the studio unfinished until now.

We had all kinds of weather on that trip- just about everything except for snow. This day was sunny and nice- more like summer than fall.

And tomorrow! Please join us at the Lyceum Gallery in downtown San Diego for the opening of my show, “Places Here.” It’s an exploration of San Diego’s urban neighborhoods, old houses, and hidden alleyways.

Reception: 6-8 PM.
