Morning light effect in a meadow in Balboa Park. It’s a long walk from my house, but it was worth it.

El Cajon Landscape
North Park Water Tower
I’m so honored that North Park Festival of Arts chose my North Park Water Tower painting for this year’s festival poster.
You can bid on the original painting here.
I painted this painting outside from life. There’s an apartment building on my street with outdoor stairs leading up to the third floor balcony. I had to work fast, because I didn’t want to get arrested for trespassing. 😉
We hope to see you at booth J-9 on the corner of Ohio St and University Ave (across from the Craft Beer block) Sunday, May 20th! I’ll have lots of new paintings to show you.
Blacks Beach Painting 2
Blacks Beach
Original landscape painting of a sky streaked with clouds over Blacks Beach in La Jolla, San Diego, California.
Darling Onions of May
Onions always make me cry… just like watching Bambi.
Red onion still life painting. With this piece, I was trying to channel Chardin’s kitchen still life paintings. This French painter was a true master of the European still life tradition. When you see his work, you feel like you could reach in and pluck out a peach… I aspire to that.
Morning Light in Balboa Park
I love to walk the trails in Balboa Park, and early morning, before it gets too hot, is a great time to paint.
With this painting, like many of my landscape paintings of nature, I tried to channel the Barbizon school and focus on capturing the colors in the landscape the way I perceive them. The Impressionists did that too, but in a different way.

Cactus on the Hill, San Diego
Golden grass and a prickly pear cactus on a summer hillside. My aunt lives on a canyon in Mission Valley, San Diego, California, and I based this landscape painting on sketches I drew while hiking the canyon.
Started last summer, finished last week!
San Diego Landscape Painting is for sale.
Nature Morte Aux Champignons
After rooting through the fridge, I got struck with an overwhelming urge to paint this mushroom. I bow to the gods of oil painting!
San Diego Beach Seascape
Wet sand on Blacks Beach in La Jolla, San Diego, California. A great day for painting.
Quizzical Cat
Every Tuesday I paint a cat. Sometimes, of course, the cat paints me.
