Great American Paintout

A couple of weeks ago we joined members of the Oil Painters of America to paint in Balboa Park. I chose the Alcazar Garden, so I could paint the California Tower (part of the Museum of Man). Also I like standing in the shade.

We took pictures of some of the other painters, though they have disappeared from the camera! Mysterious.

Virginia Mountain Landscape Painting Autumn Leaves

Autumn Landscape, Virginia

Virginia Mountain Landscape Painting Autumn Leaves

Autumn Leaves in Virginia’s Blue Ridge

This is actually, finally, the last of the plein air pieces from our recent trip to Virginia. I just walked out of the house and set up my easel across the road. I hope to do more studio paintings from the trip as well.

I had a similar view from my place in Virginia, and though my work in those days was considerably more abstract- this was during my MFA days- I did many paintings with a similar format to this one. Looking out at a distant blue skyline, from a high elevation.

Painting of Victorian House in San Diego

Victorian house in University Heights, San Diego

This pink Italianate Victorian is, for me, the definition of real estate envy. I love the house and it’s in a great neighborhood- University Heights.

I really, really love these old houses. If I had the time, I’d become a realtor!

Virginia Autumn Leaves Landscape Painting

This is one of the last of the plein air paintings from our recent trip to Blacksburg, Virginia, though there are a couple more that need polishing. Most days the weather was cool if not cold and gray, which I liked, at least in small doses.

Baguette Painting

Baguette Painting- French Bread Painting

Baguette Painting – For Sale

Painting of still life with baguette. The delicious end of the loaf of french bread… that turned hard as a rock and made its way into art.

I painted this back when my still life shelf was still red (it’s gray now).
