Quizzical Cat
Every Tuesday I paint a cat. Sometimes, of course, the cat paints me.
See the whole series at Cat Painting Tuesday, where cats are cats, paintings are paintings, and shipping on cat paintings is free.
Lime Still Life
House in Mission Hills
Urban landscape oil painting of a house in Mission Hills, San Diego, California. I thought the brown gray of this house was very striking. I love to walk through Mission Hills- what a great area.
Still Life With Guava and Lemon
The makings of a top shelf guavarita.
Original still life painting of a guava and a lemon. It smelled great while I was painting it, which took a couple of days. Inspired by Euan Uglow, I left the measuring marks visible in the finished piece.

Oh noez! Historic building demolition in San Diego
You may remember I painted the iconic San Diego Farmer’s Market in February. Are you bummed to hear part of it was torn down today? I know I am!

Image by Adrian Florido courtesy of KPBS
According to this report Wal-Mart rented the structure, promising to retain its historical street appearance while renovating the interior to house a Wal-Mart store.
I am all for repurposing old buildings in the urban core, I think it’s a great idea and I can cope with the fact that some parts need to be rebuilt. Hopefully minimal demolition to accommodate construction is all that’s happening here. Because I can’t stand it when a great old structure gets pulled down for a parking lot or for no reason at all.
Pink Bow Cat
A white Persian cat in a pink bow. Part of my series of cat paintings. I started this series over a year ago and paint one cat portrait per week.
The cat paintings help me to remember to have fun with art, and often they, like this one, reflect my mood.
You can find out more about this project at Cat Painting Tuesday.
Persian Cat in Beret
Oil Painting of Persian Cat in Beret
All cats enjoy berets- just like artists. Am I right?
I began painting a cat every week over a year ago. I called the project Cat Painting Tuesday. You can read more about why I do this thing over at Cat Painting Tuesday.
Godzilla Attacking the San Diego Suburbs- Original California Landscape
Godzilla lurches down the hill towards Qualcomm Stadium. San Diego Chargers fans wait breathlessly, their hearts in their throats.
April fools.
Monster Painting is for sale.
California Art License Plate
Usually I am interested in art plates that have kittens or Elvis painted on them, and which can be hung on the wall in my breakfast room. I also love the Art License plate design featuring the work of Wayne Thiebaud (Tee-bow).
It’s a great way to support the arts in California.
Paella Party
Last night we made paella. I enjoy paella which is fortunate since I ate it every day of my junior year of college, which I spent in Spain studying at the University of Valencia. This is also where I got into plein-air painting, in that beautiful ancient Mediterranean city with the palm trees, Baroque architecture, and amazing light.
You begin by sautéing onions, peppers, and sweet chorizo in olive oil:
And the finished product:
Delicious!
Cat Painting Tuesday
Every week I paint a cat painting. I began this project over a year ago.
I am documenting the project through my other blog, Cat Painting Tuesday. If you like cats, you can find Cat Painting Tuesday on Facebook and at Etsy.
