Santa Barbara Evening Palms Landscape

Santa Barbara California Landscape Painting Original Fine Art

Evening light on Santa Barbara’s incredible mountains, seen from a side street off State Street.

I was amazed by the atmospheric light effects on these mountains.

I thought I’d never seen light like this anywhere else, and then we saw the same effect in a Monet painting of the Italian riviera in the Santa Barbara art museum.

Hillcrest DMV in the Fog

Hillcrest San Diego DMV Department of Motor Vehicles Mid Century Modern Architecture Painting

I love this sweet old building- from the 60s?

Too bad they’re going to tear it down. Although I’d rather see urban density and leave the countryside alone, even if it means losing vintage buildings.

It’s a peaceful place to paint until about 8 when people start their commutes.

Yesterday’s painting was the same spot, just looking in a different direction. I’ve got one more from this morning, but it’s not done yet.

Sunset

Sunset North Park Hillcrest University Heights San Diego Original Oil Painting Fine Art by Kevin Inman

So I got to Domino’s and my order was not ready… and I had my pastels in the car and the sunset light was floating and yellow. This was a year ago. I did a painting then, but I kept the drawing taped up on my wall…

SOLD. See “all this and more” at booth J-9, corner of Ohio and University Ave, this Sunday May 20th at North Park Festival of the Arts!

Allegedly my uncle may bring his famous kitchen sink cookies. Since we are an art studio and not a commercial kitchen you guessed right- those cookies will be free.

Oh, and if you like the painting of the water tower that North Park Main Street so graciously put on the festival poster, you can bid on it here.

Happy Saturday!

Bid on this painting

I’m so honored that North Park Festival of Arts chose my North Park Water Tower painting for this year’s festival poster.

You can bid on the original painting here.

I painted this painting outside from life. There’s an apartment building on my street with outdoor stairs leading up to the third floor balcony. I had to work fast, because I didn’t want to get arrested for trespassing. 😉

We hope to see you at booth J-9 on the corner of Ohio St and University Ave (across from the Craft Beer block) Sunday, May 20th! I’ll have lots of new paintings to show you.

Oh noez! Historic building demolition in San Diego

San Diego Urban Landscape

You may remember I painted the iconic San Diego Farmer’s Market in February. Are you bummed to hear part of it was torn down today? I know I am!

According to this report Wal-Mart rented the structure, promising to retain its historical street appearance while renovating the interior to house a Wal-Mart store.

I am all for repurposing old buildings in the urban core, I think it’s a great idea and I can cope with the fact that some parts need to be rebuilt. Hopefully minimal demolition to accommodate construction is all that’s happening here. Because I can’t stand it when a great old structure gets pulled down for a parking lot or for no reason at all.
