From my trip to Venice last year. Excavated it today in my semi-successful studio cleanup effort.

Eucalyptus at Twilight- buy now
This was kind of a magical sunset, because first the trees went blue in the gathering night, with everything backlit by the setting sun at the top of the hill.

Sunset in Hillcrest – For Sale
The coastal clouds rolled in at nightfall and turned pink with the city lights. This is from a series of plein air night paintings I did last year. Despite the winter chill (low 60s, brr!), it’s easy to get into night paintings this time of year, when it’s just about fully dark around 5.

San Diego Sunset Painting – For Sale
Here’s another piece from earlier in the year, that I couldn’t get a decent picture of until recently. This is one of the canyons in Balboa Park, a couple of streets away from my house.
U-Heights Nocturne
This is from a series of night and twilight paintings I did in Hillcrest and University Heights earlier in the year. This vacant lot once was home to a BevMo, which burned down. There’s a construction sign with an elevation drawing of a new building, so I guess something new is coming soon in this spot.
Sold, but here’s a link to other San Diego paintings in my Etsy shop.
Eucalyptus Woods at Nightfall
Climbing a steep hill in the woods, with twilight painting the Western sky.
The eucalyptus trees in San Diego are some of my favorite painting subjects.
San Diego Landscape Painting is for sale.
Santa Barbara Evening Palms Landscape
Evening light on Santa Barbara’s incredible mountains, seen from a side street off State Street.
I was amazed by the atmospheric light effects on these mountains.
I thought I’d never seen light like this anywhere else, and then we saw the same effect in a Monet painting of the Italian riviera in the Santa Barbara art museum.
8 x 10 inches
oil on linen on panel
Pink Sky Palm Trees – Landscape Painting
Pink Sky Palm Trees – California Landscape Painting
Landscape painting of 3 palm trees in silhouette against a night sky turned glowing pink from the lights of the stadium reflecting against the marine layer rolling in off the Pacific. This painting is from memory, trying to capture the colors of the evening landscape driving down towards Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley, San Diego, California. When I got home, I did a study in pastels, and completed the oil painting the next day.
SOLD.
