I’ve been drawn to sculptural trees lately, ones near the ocean that have been twisted and bent by the wind. This piece is from Mount Soledad in La Jolla, California.

A grey day.
I started this painting, and got to here when it started raining. Normally, I’d come back another day to finish, but then I decided I loved it as-is.
And I thought, this is probably one of those where you put one more brush stroke on it and it doesn’t work anymore.
This was kind of a magical sunset, because first the trees went blue in the gathering night, with everything backlit by the setting sun at the top of the hill.
