North Park Water Tower

North Park, San Diego, California Water Tower Painting Kevin Inman

Bid on this painting

I’m so honored that North Park Festival of Arts chose my North Park Water Tower painting for this year’s festival poster.

You can bid on the original painting here.

I painted this painting outside from life. There’s an apartment building on my street with outdoor stairs leading up to the third floor balcony. I had to work fast, because I didn’t want to get arrested for trespassing. 😉

We hope to see you at booth J-9 on the corner of Ohio St and University Ave (across from the Craft Beer block) Sunday, May 20th! I’ll have lots of new paintings to show you.

Morning Light in Balboa Park

San Diego California Natural Landscape Painting Fine Art

I love to walk the trails in Balboa Park, and early morning, before it gets too hot, is a great time to paint.

With this painting, like many of my landscape paintings of nature, I tried to channel the Barbizon school and focus on capturing the colors in the landscape the way I perceive them. The Impressionists did that too, but in a different way.

Tecolote Canyon Landscape

San Diego California Landscape Painting

Along the hiking trail in Tecolote Canyon, San Diego, California. I really respond to the golden grass contrasted with the green California live oaks. When I lived in Virginia, that was the look of a winter landscape- but here that is the look of summer.

California Landscape Painting is for sale.

Earth Day Was Yesterday

San Diego California Art- Original California Landscape Painting

Earth Day was yesterday, but I forgot to post a natural landscape that celebrates the environment. So I’m doing it today instead. Update: Earth Day is today! My bad.

Landscape painting of Mission Trails Park in San Diego, California. A natural area with stunning mountain views, grassy meadows and native oaks, and the river flowing through it. I love to paint here.

I began this piece en plein air, but I had forgotten my toned grounds (left them on the table at home) so I was working on spare canvases that I keep in the back of my truck. Working alla prima from white means I’ll need an additional session in the studio to finish the painting, and that’s what I did with this landscape.

Oh noez! Historic building demolition in San Diego

San Diego Urban Landscape

You may remember I painted the iconic San Diego Farmer’s Market in February. Are you bummed to hear part of it was torn down today? I know I am!

Image by Adrian Florido courtesy of KPBS

According to this report Wal-Mart rented the structure, promising to retain its historical street appearance while renovating the interior to house a Wal-Mart store.

I am all for repurposing old buildings in the urban core, I think it’s a great idea and I can cope with the fact that some parts need to be rebuilt. Hopefully minimal demolition to accommodate construction is all that’s happening here. Because I can’t stand it when a great old structure gets pulled down for a parking lot or for no reason at all.
