Oh noez! Historic building demolition in San Diego

San Diego Urban Landscape

You may remember I painted the iconic San Diego Farmer’s Market in February. Are you bummed to hear part of it was torn down today? I know I am!

According to this report Wal-Mart rented the structure, promising to retain its historical street appearance while renovating the interior to house a Wal-Mart store.

I am all for repurposing old buildings in the urban core, I think it’s a great idea and I can cope with the fact that some parts need to be rebuilt. Hopefully minimal demolition to accommodate construction is all that’s happening here. Because I can’t stand it when a great old structure gets pulled down for a parking lot or for no reason at all.

Pink Bow Cat

White Persian Cat Painting Pink Bow Art

A white Persian cat in a pink bow. Part of my series of cat paintings. I started this series over a year ago and paint one cat portrait per week.

The cat paintings help me to remember to have fun with art, and often they, like this one, reflect my mood.

You can find out more about this project at Cat Painting Tuesday.

Cupcake Painting

Cupcake Painting- Original Art

Cupcake Painting- Original Art

Mmm… cupcakes. I confess these were not home made- although I do like to bake. They are red velvet cupcakes from Trader Joe’s and they are top notch- moist and rich and chocolatey. I recommend them.

I didn’t bring this cupcake painting to the usual amount of finish I like to put on a painting, and just left it sketchy. I liked the cupcake painting like this. I guess my still life painting kick is ongoing… but I am hoping to get out and do some plein air landscape painting later this week. California is beautiful right now- but then isn’t it always?
