I’m more of a wine sipper, but I had a good time here.
Tried to paint this place a while back, but I wasn’t happy with it and took another stab at it.

Rain is pretty. It was fun watching The Californians huddle in their jackets, as though this was Armageddon.

Not sure what this place is, an attractive neoclassical court with trees planted in a pattern.
Since it’s at the edge of the Ciutadella park- formally a citadel- this might be an antique building, but is quite likely a 20th century structure in a historicizing style.

Mini Giraffe – buy now
A herd of these small giraffes lives in the canyon behind the house. They are somewhat skittish, but we’ve befriended this one.
Santa Barbara Beach Painting – Sold, but here are more Seascape Paintings For Sale
Theoretically, I’m somewhere in Santa Barbara right now, painting.
A midcentury industrial building off Convoy in San Diego. I love this area with its acres of asphalt and modern architecture.
Yes, we are off to Paris today… just kidding. We are actually off to Las Vegas today. I’m tagging along when Mike goes to the Splunk conference because I want to do some paintings of the desert. And if it’s too hot, I might just do some paintings inside the fake Venice, which is air conditioned. And I might do some paintings of the fake Paris which is also in Vegas. It’s Vegas; who knows what I might do.
I haven’t been to Paris in a decade but I filled up a notebook with drawings last time… the proceeds from this painting go directly into my Paris Or Maybe Italy plein air painting trip savings account. 😉
So I’m a huge fan of Jeffersonian architecture.
This is Poplar Forest, our 3rd president’s retreat near Bedford, Virginia. The house is seen from the south lawn.
We went to Poplar Forest a few years ago, and we weren’t able to tour the inside, I think because of restoration work.
Jefferson was a complex individual, author of liberty, owner of slaves.
“In Bedford I have two plantations, adjoining, of 16 hands (slaves) each, uplands of the first quality, where I cultivate both tobacco and wheat.”
T. Jefferson, January 20, 1815
In June 1781 (during the Revolutionary War), Thomas Jefferson and his family arrived at Poplar Forest after retreating from Charlottesville during a British raid. Jefferson and his family stayed at Poplar Forest until late July.
