Pan dulce from our local Sprouts. The first time I tried to paint a concha, it went badly wrong and just looked like a blob. Pastries aren’t as forgiving of mistakes as, say, a piece of fruit.
I propped it up in the back so you can’t see the bite I took out of it.
Two peaches on the shelf, with a drawing taped to the wall behind. I like organic still life compositions, where the painting just grows out of whatever objects happen to be on the table.
I’ve got away from that idea recently, but I’d like to go back to it.
Update: You know what, I think these were actually nectarines. They weren’t fuzzy, they were slightly shiny, and they were more orange in color. They sold them as peaches though.
Peach Painting is for sale.
Painting these peaches was a race against time and breakfast.

The makings of a top shelf guavarita.
Original still life painting of a guava and a lemon. It smelled great while I was painting it, which took a couple of days. Inspired by Euan Uglow, I left the measuring marks visible in the finished piece.
Original still life painting of three oranges. We’ve got a big bowl of mandarin oranges in the kitchen right now. For years I have loved painting fruit- I must have painted hundreds of paintings of bananas.

Flower Painting- Yellow Freesia Buds
Yellow freesias are one of my favorite flowers. I love the color and the way they smell. They are blooming all over San Diego right now, it looks great.
Freesia Painting is for sale at my online art store.
Leaving the pet sitting house today. I think my cat is going to miss the birds in the canyon.
Here’s a closeup of the older painting of mine- probably from 2008 or so.
This piece is 24 x 24 inches. I used to work much larger than I currently do. I mean, I do still do the occasional large painting for a commission- big paintings can really breathe life into a room- but I’ve been into small-scale works in a big way for at least a year now. Sometimes I still feel the urge to paint six foot canvases though! Maybe of San Diego Brutalist architecture, which has caught my eye lately.
I remember with this painting I felt very bold and rebellious for using black out of the tube. It was Utterly Forbidden when I was in art school.
OK, going to pack things up and head out. I am itching to get to my easel.
Marshmallow Easter Peeps Painting
Last year I painted the classic pink chicken Peeps and this year I went for the bunny rabbit Peeps. Easter season is still young, so maybe I’ll go back for another color.
People love Easter Peeps or they hate them – I love the way they look.
Still life painting of a glazed donut. We had bad weather in San Diego last week so I stayed inside painting baked goods, hoping for some California sunshine.
