Mission Trails San Diego Landscape Painting – For Sale
In January, the last of the yellow leaves are falling, just as the land turns celadon green with the first rains of the year. A plein air painting from Saturday.

Hillcrest Watercolor: For Sale.
I love this mid century building. I’d guess it’s from the late 1950s, but it could be the 60s. It used to be a Chicken and Waffles restaurant, which was a lot of fun. Painted from across the street at breakfast.
It’s been a while since I’ve worked in pen and ink, highlighted with watercolor, and getting back into this medium feels wonderful and free.

La Jolla California Canyon Landscape Painting – Buy Now
A perfect morning just off the UCSD campus in La Jolla. I’d come here to paint the ocean, but got captivated by the canyon instead.

San Diego Skyline from Spanish Landing Park- For Sale
A small plein air watercolor of the San Diego skyline seen behind the Harbor Island Marina.
I’ve mostly posted oil paintings here, and I continue to paint in oil every day. But I’m eager for the freedom of pen and ink, highlighted with watercolor, so I’m increasingly turning to watercolor for quick studies. Normally I use pastel for those, but I feel like a change. So watercolor it is! I thought you might like to see some of them.
I painted this yesterday- a perfect sunny day- over lunch at Spanish Landing Park.
What was the lunch? Pesto pasta.

Ocean Beach Painting- For Sale
This plein air painting is looking at Ocean Beach from across the channel in Mission Beach.
From 12/31- officially my last painting of 2012!

Night Fog in Hillcrest – Buy Now
This painting is from last New Year’s Eve. It was bitterly cold, for San Diego, which means it was in the upper 30s.
That night, dense fog rolled over the city and as we walked home through Hillcrest, the fog was so thick we could see only vague outlines of the buildings across Park Blvd.
This painting was my attempt to recreate the mood of that night.

Coronado Street, San Diego- For Sale
Two palms in front of a Streamline Moderne garage on Coronado.

Mission Trails Park, San Diego – For Sale
I enjoy painting at Mission Trails- amazing scenery, with mountains, wetlands, and the remains of an early reservoir built by the Spanish.
This is kind of a companion to yesterday’s Blacks Beach painting, both scenes looking out to sea, and painted at the same time.
When I go to Blacks Beach, I try to do several paintings, since it’s at the bottom of these wonderful soaring cliffs and the stairs down to it are so killer. It’s a great place to paint, with every kind of light effect imaginable from the ethereal to the very stark.

Blacks Beach Painting- For Sale
I love the way the sky reflects in wave-wet sand.

Hillcrest plein air- for sale
I love urban views. Here we are looking to the west over Hillcrest, towards Mission Hills.
This being San Diego in December, I did get chilly painting this in my shorts and running shoes, while listening to Christmas carols floating up from the plaza below.

Sunset Cliffs painting – for sale
Plein air painting as a storm blew in off the Pacific near sunset.
At Sunset Cliffs, in Ocean Beach.

Autumn Leaves Landscape Painting – For Sale
I painted these beautiful, blazing yellow leaves last week, in mid-December.
It was a mild afternoon along the San Diego River.
