This morning, up bright and early. Far too early and none too bright, really.

I needed to drop a few items in the mail and then decamped to this Starbucks, which was crowded with coffee lovers in their plaid Christmas pajamas, discussing their hangovers and today’s holiday shopping plans.

I had holiday shopping plans of my own- seeking a new and festive seasonal shirt, like the one below, featuring a beer bottle festooned with Christmas lights.

Due to whatever meteorological phenomenon, we have had magnificent sunsets in San Diego these past few weeks.

Here, a classic case of not checking the flight status. Ever helpful, I went to the airport to pick up the traveler. I crawled through the clotted traffic, sweating bullets, feeling very late, but actually being an hour early. So hello, art junk in the trunk, hello painting. for sale

A small plein air pen and ink with acrylic in downtown San Diego. This is the view from floor 6 of the Horton Plaza parking structure. I painted this last year, on a hot windy day in winter. Today I went back in a silver rain and thought of this piece. Painting watercolor in the rain, of course, being a futile endeavor.

This painting happened sort of by accident but it is also staged. Let me explain. I was painting in Balboa Park, a painting of some trees. And I drove home a different way than usual , through South Park.

I saw this orange house and thought, what a great orange house. Then I saw the orange Prius parked in front of the orange house and I thought, Ha! So then I parked MY orange Prius up the hill behind and painted this.
