I painted this sitting on a rock at Lake Murray, near SDSU.

I’ve been working in watercolor more lately, mostly because I cut my pinky finger, and it’s such a hassle trying to keep oil paint from getting in the cut and if I wear a bandaid, my finger doesn’t bend. So there you go, watercolor.

Outside the laundromat- for sale

While I was working on this drawing at the laundromat, I overheard the following conversation:

3 year old boy: What’s that?
Father: It’s a flag. Can you say flag?
3 year old: Flag. I’m gonna f*** her like a pig!!!

– I just kept painting.

Donut Bar in San Diego has become something of a sensation around here. I was there the first morning it opened!

And I’ve been back every single other morning!!! (Not really, just about once per week is my limit but the donuts really are good.)

Lately I’ve been noticing the signs of burnout with oil painting.

The best cure for burnout for me is two things: plein air watercolor, since it’s so fresh and relaxing; and a visit to the art museum. I’d like to go to LACMA, but it’ll probably be a couple of weeks before I make the drive to LaLaLand.

So today I hopped in the truck and felt the pull to Mission Bay. I’m always intrigued by the palms over the low flat roofs of the houses.

It turned out to be the perfect choice; there were people playing beach volleyball, sailboats and jet skis, kids laughing, and a cool breeze off the water. A great painting day.
