A steep street by the University Heights library. The Victorian building on the corner is a Yoga studio and next door to that… the laundromat. I’ve done several pieces here while waiting for my clothes.

Fog in the Hills, Santa Barbara
Santa Barbara Beach
A great afternoon for a walk in Santa Barbara, California. The water was amazingly calm, with sailboats moored offshore.
San Clemente Sailboats 2
I was intrigued by the deep greens and bright blues of the water, and of course the crowd of sailboats around Dana Point. From the pier, I did a bunch of drawings of the water and the beautiful seaside town, and this studio painting from those plein air sketches.
Santa Ynez Valley Landscape
The Santa Ynez valley up above and inland from Santa Barbara, California is really too pretty to describe. I hope the painting says enough.
While there we also visited the Fess Parker winery- delicious!
Santa Barbara Beach Sailboats
A misty gray morning on the beach in Santa Barbara, California, with sailboats moored on the wide Pacific.
Oil on linen painting panel.
Still Life With Guava and Lemon
The makings of a top shelf guavarita.
Original still life painting of a guava and a lemon. It smelled great while I was painting it, which took a couple of days. Inspired by Euan Uglow, I left the measuring marks visible in the finished piece.
Kitchen Still Life With Garlic
Three Clementines
Original still life painting of three oranges. We’ve got a big bowl of mandarin oranges in the kitchen right now. For years I have loved painting fruit- I must have painted hundreds of paintings of bananas.

Flower Painting- Yellow Freesia Buds
Flower Painting- Yellow Freesia Buds
Yellow freesias are one of my favorite flowers. I love the color and the way they smell. They are blooming all over San Diego right now, it looks great.
Freesia Painting is for sale at my online art store.
Cats in Art
Leaving the pet sitting house today. I think my cat is going to miss the birds in the canyon.
Here’s a closeup of the older painting of mine- probably from 2008 or so.
This piece is 24 x 24 inches. I used to work much larger than I currently do. I mean, I do still do the occasional large painting for a commission- big paintings can really breathe life into a room- but I’ve been into small-scale works in a big way for at least a year now. Sometimes I still feel the urge to paint six foot canvases though! Maybe of San Diego Brutalist architecture, which has caught my eye lately.
I remember with this painting I felt very bold and rebellious for using black out of the tube. It was Utterly Forbidden when I was in art school.
OK, going to pack things up and head out. I am itching to get to my easel.
Urban Landscape Painting, San Diego, California
Urban Landscape, San Diego – Oil Painting
This house and the garage- in the foreground- are Mission Revival in style, but due to the vantage point from the alley, they look like modernist white boxes. It is a strange but wonderful place. The front and sides are all different colors- pink and light green and taupe and beige for the different sides of the house and detached garage. But all close to pale so you don’t see it at first. After the recent rains, the yard is a green and gold carpet of California wildflowers.
Urban Landscape, San Diego – Oil Painting is for sale.
Pink Sky Palm Trees – Landscape Painting
Pink Sky Palm Trees – California Landscape Painting
Landscape painting of 3 palm trees in silhouette against a night sky turned glowing pink from the lights of the stadium reflecting against the marine layer rolling in off the Pacific. This painting is from memory, trying to capture the colors of the evening landscape driving down towards Qualcomm Stadium in Mission Valley, San Diego, California. When I got home, I did a study in pastels, and completed the oil painting the next day.

Pink Bunny Easter Peeps Painting
Marshmallow Easter Peeps Painting
Last year I painted the classic pink chicken Peeps and this year I went for the bunny rabbit Peeps. Easter season is still young, so maybe I’ll go back for another color.
People love Easter Peeps or they hate them – I love the way they look.
Glazed Donut Still Life Painting
Still life painting of a glazed donut. We had bad weather in San Diego last week so I stayed inside painting baked goods, hoping for some California sunshine.
