Victorian Building in Little Italy – For Sale
I think this building’s being torn down for a parking lot and eventually a high rise in Little Italy.

Houses in Mission Hills- Buy Now
A steep street curves up out of a canyon in the San Diego neighborhood of Mission Hills. I wound up here by accident because I took the wrong street; I’m glad I did.

Virginia Woods Painting- For Sale
Here’s another painting of the bike path I used to ride to and from work, which wound through farms and forests and along an old railroad cutting through rock. It’s a nice ride if you’re in the Blacksburg area.
I started this painting either during or shortly after getting back from our trip to Blacksburg last autumn.

Steep Street in Mission Hills- For Sale
I think this is the first time I’ve ever put cars in a painting. Well, maybe I did in Spain but it’s been more than a decade, so I don’t think it counts.
Also, terrifying street to drive on, BTW. Let alone to park; kudos to those brave drivers.

What can I say about this? Ocean Beach is beautiful and lots of fun. I had pizza for lunch, and I love pizza.
That’s this painting on the sideways easel, while these guys are checking out the geocache. It was a freezing 55 degrees in the shade- so I really, really suffered for this one. 😉

San Diego Industrial Landscape – Buy Now
An industrial building off Convoy in Kearny Mesa. This is a great area with mid century buildings and wide open spaces- lots of asphalt and geometry and I love it.
This piece almost went into my show at the Lyceum Gallery… opening tonight!
It’s a painting started “en plein air” (painted outside on location) on Normal Street in Hillcrest. This is the spot at one end of the Hillcrest Farmer’s Market.
Early morning, before the traffic gets heavy with people going to work, is a nice, peaceful time to paint. I didn’t manage to finish this one before things started getting hectic, with people waiting outside the DMV and streaming by in their cars, ready to hit the highway on their way to their jobs. So I finished it later in the studio; I often work this way.
“Places Here” – Art Reception: 6-8 PM.
Please join us at the Lyceum Gallery in downtown San Diego for the opening of my show, “Places Here.” It’s an exploration of San Diego’s urban neighborhoods, old houses, and hidden alleyways. (Please click here for more info.)

						Hillcrest Watercolor: For Sale.
I love this mid century building. I’d guess it’s from the late 1950s, but it could be the 60s. It used to be a Chicken and Waffles restaurant, which was a lot of fun. Painted from across the street at breakfast.
It’s been a while since I’ve worked in pen and ink, highlighted with watercolor, and getting back into this medium feels wonderful and free.

San Diego Skyline from Spanish Landing Park- For Sale
A small plein air watercolor of the San Diego skyline seen behind the Harbor Island Marina.
I’ve mostly posted oil paintings here, and I continue to paint in oil every day. But I’m eager for the freedom of pen and ink, highlighted with watercolor, so I’m increasingly turning to watercolor for quick studies. Normally I use pastel for those, but I feel like a change. So watercolor it is! I thought you might like to see some of them.
I painted this yesterday- a perfect sunny day- over lunch at Spanish Landing Park.
What was the lunch? Pesto pasta.

Ocean Beach Painting- For Sale
This plein air painting is looking at Ocean Beach from across the channel in Mission Beach.
From 12/31- officially my last painting of 2012!

Night Fog in Hillcrest – Buy Now
This painting is from last New Year’s Eve. It was bitterly cold, for San Diego, which means it was in the upper 30s.
That night, dense fog rolled over the city and as we walked home through Hillcrest, the fog was so thick we could see only vague outlines of the buildings across Park Blvd.
This painting was my attempt to recreate the mood of that night.
